Peel the onion, chop it finely and cook over medium-low heat with the butter. Now pour in the cream and a pinch of pepper and heat thoroughly. Remove the sauce from the pan and place in a bowl, pour the vodka into the pan and use it to deglaze; cook to help evaporating the alcohol, then pour it all into the sauce.
Cook the pasta in salted water, drain in a large heated bowl.
Add the smoked salmon to the pasta, stir to heat it well, then pour over the hot vodka and cream sauce and mix again.
Complete by arranging some lumpfish roe over each individual plate if you choose to use them.
